1 · Sledge

Sledge: can shoppers filter your clothes by size and color?

The Sledge Product Filter & Search listing on the Shopify App Store, with its summary and screenshots.

Your size filter still offers M after the last M sold. Black reaches you from three suppliers, so the color filter lists Onyx, Jet and Noir as three choices.

Sledge is a Shopify search and filter app whose filters can come from sizes, colors, tags, vendor, product type, collections, price, stock and custom product details such as fabric.

In the filter display settings, "Show out of stock variant filter items", the setting that keeps sold-out sizes in the list, is on by default. Switch it off, and the size list offers only sizes shoppers can still buy. A shopper who picks M then sees only products she can still buy in M. Why your size filter shows sold-out sizes covers the other fixes.

Two Display Settings switches in the Sledge admin: Show out of stock variant filter items, switched on, and Display variants as separate products, switched off.
One switch decides whether sold-out sizes stay in the size filter; another can show each color as its own card.

"Merge Value", the tool that folds near-duplicate names together, makes Onyx, Jet and Noir one filter value. "Color Swatch" turns color names into swatches in the filter. A swatch can hold up to three colors or a picture of the fabric, and you can import a whole list from a CSV file. For grouping color names and ordering the size run, read the clothing color filter guide.

Your tee comes in four colors, and the collection shows one card. Under "Display variants as separate products", the setting that gives each color its own card, set "Split by option" to Color. The admin warns that some features, bundles among them, may not work with it on.

Sledge filters on a demo store: round color chips in the Color Swatch filter, a count beside each size from XS to 2XL in the Size filter, and a polo shirt, a sneaker and a tote in the first row of products.
A size filter with a count beside each size, and color chips in place of color names, on the Sledge Demo Store.

Reviews take a star rating, a written review and up to five photos, each up to 10 MB. A video file is refused. Reviews of four and five stars go live on their own by default.

The wishlist can save the exact size or color a shopper picked once you switch on "Variant level", which is off by default. Pre-orders run on any paid plan, for one product or several picked at once, and deposits depend on your payment provider and region. Back in Stock forms show on product pages, product cards in collections, search results and instant search.

Pro, at $29.99 a month, carries every tool above except Back in Stock. Scale costs $89.99, Accelerate $199 and Ultimate $399, side by side on Sledge pricing. Start the 14-day free trial and try the sold-out size switch on your own store.

Sledge's Back in Stock form, which starts on the Accelerate plan at $199, doesn't ask which size the shopper is waiting for. Sledge sends no review request emails and no wishlist emails, and has no size charts. It is free on development stores only, not on a live store. On the App Store, look for "Sledge Product Filter & Search".

Best for: shoppers who filter by size and color.

2 · Kiwi Size Chart & Recommender

Kiwi Size Chart & Recommender: how do shoppers pick the right size?

Kiwi Size Chart & Recommender's listing on the Shopify App Store, with its summary and screenshots.

Shoppers email you to ask which size to order. Some don't ask, buy two sizes and send one back. In Coresight Research's 2023 survey of 100 US apparel brands and retailers, size and fit was the most cited return reason, named by 53%.

Many paid clothing themes include a size chart of their own, and the clothing themes list shows which, so check your theme first. Kiwi adds size charts by product or collection, and a chart set on a collection reaches the products you add to it later. You can import a chart from an image, a product description or a CSV file. The sizing unit switches with the shopper's location.

Free covers 3 published size charts, with a Kiwi watermark. Premium costs $7.99 a month for 10 charts without it, Plus $14.99 for 20 charts and up to 10 custom size recommenders, and Ultimate $26.99 for unlimited charts. Paid plans start with a 14-day free trial.

Size recommendations start on Plus. Plus and Ultimate add a usage fee based on your store's orders in the last 30 days, with none in the first billing month. At 300 orders a month, Plus comes to $19.99.

Best for: shoppers unsure of their size.

3 · Loox

Loox: how do you get photo reviews of clothes on real people?

Loox's listing on the Shopify App Store, with its summary and screenshots.

Your new dress has only your own photos. A shopper can't tell how it hangs on a body.

Loox collects photo and video reviews by email, QR code or a discount for a photo. It syncs them to the Shop app and works with Klaviyo and Omnisend.

Beginner is free up to 500 orders in total, with review request emails, reminders and discounts for photo reviews. Convert costs $49.99 a month for 300 orders, plus $50 for each 300 more, after a 14-day free trial. It adds video reviews, AI summaries and translations, referrals, and sync to Meta Shops, Google Shopping and TikTok Shop. Unlimited costs $299.99.

Sledge's filters can show Loox's stars on their product cards once you switch on "Loox Product Reviews" in Sledge's integration settings. Read Sledge vs Loox, or eight review apps compared on their free plans.

Best for: shoppers who want to see it worn.

4 · STOQ

STOQ: what happens when size M sells out?

STOQ's preorder and back in stock listing on the Shopify App Store, with its summary and screenshots.

Size M sells out on a Tuesday. The shopper who wanted M never comes back, because nothing told her it was back.

By default, STOQ alerts a shopper only when the exact size she signed up for is restocked. A paid-plan option, "Notify customers when any product option is restocked", widens that to any size or color, for all products or the ones you choose.

STOQ puts Notify me and Preorder buttons on sold-out products and sends alerts by email or SMS on restock. Pre-orders can take a deposit or a part payment, and STOQ syncs with Klaviyo, Mailchimp and Omnisend.

Free covers 30 alert emails and 10 pre-orders a month. Lite costs $10 for 1,000 email or SMS alerts and 100 pre-orders, Pro $29 for 2,000 alerts and 400 pre-orders, and Unlimited $69, after a 14-day free trial. Each SMS adds $0.025 on top.

For the two side by side, read Sledge vs STOQ. For more alert apps, see back in stock app alternatives.

Best for: sizes that sell out.

5 · Return Prime

Return Prime: can a wrong size become an exchange instead of a refund?

Return Prime's returns and exchanges listing on the Shopify App Store, with its summary and screenshots.

Every wrong size comes back as a refund. The sale you already made walks out the door.

Return Prime gives shoppers a branded return portal. Your rules decide whether a return becomes an exchange, store credit or a refund, and you decide when the shopper pays the price difference on an exchange. Return labels and status updates come with it.

Start is free to install, with 5 return requests, exchanges for another size or color and the branded portal, then $0.49 for each extra request. Grow costs $19.99 a month for 60 requests, then $0.49 each, and adds Shop Now exchange, instant exchange and refunds to store credit. Thrive AI costs $79.99 for 180 requests, then $0.79 each, and Scale $149.99 for 450 or more. Paid plans start with a 15-day free trial.

The bill counts return requests, so it rises in a heavy return month. Shopify's own self-serve returns are covered in the FAQ below. For six more returns apps and what 50 returns a month cost on each, see the best Shopify returns apps.

Best for: turning wrong sizes into exchanges.

6 · Klaviyo

Klaviyo: how do you tell your list a drop is live?

Klaviyo's email and SMS listing on the Shopify App Store, with its summary and screenshots.

The drop goes live at noon. Your list hears about it from a friend, once the popular sizes are gone.

Klaviyo sends email, SMS, WhatsApp and push messages, as one-off campaigns or as flows that go out on their own.

Its Back in Stock sign-up form shows a Notify me button when the size a shopper picked is sold out. The alert itself goes out from a back in stock flow you build. That form doesn't run on products set to "Continue selling when out of stock", Shopify's setting that keeps a sold-out item on sale.

Free covers up to 250 active profiles and 500 emails a month. Email starts at $20 a month for 251 to 500 contacts, and SMS at $15 for up to 1,250 SMS/MMS credits. The bill counts contacts, not orders, and Klaviyo may bill some charges apart from your Shopify invoice.

Klaviyo takes the email job in apps for a growing store. For what to send after the first order, read how to get repeat customers.

Best for: telling your list a drop is live.

7 · GenLook

GenLook: can shoppers see your clothes on themselves?

GenLook's virtual try-on listing on the Shopify App Store, with its summary and screenshots.

A shopper likes the jacket on your model. She can't picture it on herself, so it stays in the cart.

GenLook adds a Try On button to product pages. The shopper uploads one photo, and GenLook generates a picture of her wearing your clothes. A shopping assistant, still in beta, recommends a size from your size chart, and each try-on can capture an email.

Preview is free for 10 try-ons a month. Starter costs $19.99 for 100, then $0.17 each, Growth $29 for 250, then $0.12, and Pro $99 for 1,000, then $0.10.

GenLook has been on the App Store since September 2025.

Best for: shoppers who want to see it on themselves.

The monthly bill

What do these apps cost at 300 orders a month?

Each bill counts something different. Kiwi's Plus and Ultimate plans add a fee based on your store's orders in the last 30 days. The bill counts orders on Loox Convert, alert emails and pre-orders on STOQ, return requests on Return Prime, contacts on Klaviyo and try-ons on GenLook. Sledge charges a flat monthly price, and each plan covers a Monthly Revenue Boost up to a cap.

App What the bill counts At 300 orders a month
Sledge A flat monthly plan, with a Monthly Revenue Boost cap $29.99 on Pro. Back in Stock needs Accelerate, $199
Kiwi The plan, plus your store's orders in the last 30 days on Plus and Ultimate $0 for 3 charts, or $19.99 on Plus with the size recommender
Loox Orders $0 until 500 orders in total, then Convert at $49.99 for 300 a month
STOQ Alert emails and pre-orders $0 for 30 emails, or Lite at $10 for 1,000
Return Prime Return requests Say 1 in 4 orders comes back, about 75 requests: $19.99 on Grow plus 15 extra at $0.49, $27.34 in all
Klaviyo Contacts $0 up to 250 active profiles, or Email at $20 for 251 to 500 contacts
GenLook Try-ons $0 for 10, or Starter at $19.99 for 100

The Return Prime row is a worked example, not a measured rate. For scale, Coresight Research estimated the US online apparel return rate at 24.4% for the 12 months to March 2023.

Sledge's Monthly Revenue Boost is the revenue Sledge counts as added in a month. Past the cap, $8,000 on Pro, Growth Intelligence pauses new suggestions until the month resets, and the month's price stays the same. Your filters keep running. For apps that stay free on a live store, see the best free Shopify apps.

Where to start

Which fix should your clothing store make first?

The one your shoppers hit most. Say shoppers keep ticking size M and black on your dresses and leave empty-handed. On any paid Sledge plan, Growth Intelligence can list the filter picks shoppers repeat in a week without buying, and flag your store when it has no color swatches.

Growth Intelligence adds what its suggested fixes could bring into one "Est. potential" total, in your store's currency. On Pro, at $29.99 a month, it runs weekly. Growth Intelligence turns on when you pick a paid plan, so start the 14-day free trial, then choose a plan to see your own total.

What apps does a Shopify clothing store need?

One app for each job a general store doesn't have. Shoppers filter by size and color, sizes sell out, fit is a guess and a wrong size comes back. So you need filters that read sizes, a size chart, photo reviews, alerts by size and exchanges. Apps for any growing store covers email, reviews and support.

Are there free Shopify apps for a clothing store?

Yes. Kiwi is free for 3 size charts, Loox up to 500 orders in total and STOQ for 30 alert emails a month. Return Prime covers 5 return requests, Klaviyo 250 active profiles and GenLook 10 try-ons a month. Sledge is free on development stores only, with a 14-day free trial.

How can a clothing store cut wrong-size returns?

Start with fit. In a 2023 Coresight Research survey of 100 US apparel brands and retailers, size and fit was the most cited return reason, named by 53%. A size chart answers which size to order, photo reviews show the fit on real people, and an exchange keeps the sale when the size is still wrong.

Can shoppers get an alert when their size is back in stock?

Yes. STOQ does it by default: it alerts a shopper only when the exact size she asked for is restocked, free for 30 emails a month. Klaviyo's back in stock form shows a Notify me button when the size she picked is sold out, and a back in stock flow you set up sends the alert.

Do you need a returns app for a clothing store?

Not to start. Shopify's self-serve returns let a shopper ask for a return from the order status page, and you can add the exchange item when you approve it. An app adds a branded portal and exchange rules. Return Prime is free for 5 requests, and Redo's software is free, paid for by an optional fee shoppers add at checkout.

Put a dollar total on the filter picks that don't sell

On any paid plan, Growth Intelligence can list the filter picks shoppers repeat without buying, and adds its fixes to one “Est. potential” total in your store's currency.
