Your first orders are shipping, and the next shopper on your product page has only your own description to go on. For most stores the best review app for Shopify is Judge.me, whose free plan asks every buyer for a review and takes photo and video reviews with no cap.
At a glance
What is the best review app for Shopify?
Judge.me fits most stores. All eight apps below start free on their App Store listing, and each one sends review requests on that free plan, so the first social proof on your product pages costs nothing. What differs is what the free plan counts, and what you pay once you pass it.

Free plans
Which Shopify review apps are actually free?
All eight. Judge.me and Junip cap nothing, and AG Product Reviews lists no limit. Klaviyo Reviews, Okendo and Yotpo cap the orders you take each month, and Reviews.io caps review invites.
Loox's free plan closes once your store passes 500 orders in total, not 500 a month.
| App | The free plan counts | Review requests | Starts on a paid plan |
|---|---|---|---|
| Judge.me | Nothing: reviews and requests are unlimited | Yes | Automatic reminders, Google Shopping, Q&A, coupons |

We kept apps with a free plan on their App Store listing, put the two whose free plans say unlimited first, and ordered the rest by the job each suits.
1 · Judge.me
Judge.me: is the free plan really unlimited?
You have no reviews yet and no budget for an app. Judge.me's Forever Free plan puts no cap on product reviews, store reviews, photo and video reviews, or review requests.
The free plan also carries the review widget, a star rating badge, a trust badge and the review stars Google can show in search. Reviews sync with the Shop app, Etsy and Amazon. An importer brings reviews over from Yotpo, Loox, Amazon, Etsy and other platforms.
The catch is follow-up. Automatic reminders need the Awesome plan at $15 a month, as do Google Shopping, coupons, referrals, Q&A and a reviews page. Awesome has a 15-day free trial.
Best for: a first review app for almost any store.
2 · Junip
Junip: what do you get free with no order cap?
A buyer opens your review email on a phone, meets a long form, and closes it. Junip's free plan gives you a phone-first review form, unlimited orders and unlimited review request emails.
Product page widgets and Google's review stars come free too. Replies to reviews and incentives start on Core at $29 a month, the first plan card to list review requests with media.
Google Shopping, TikTok Shop, Meta Shops and Shop app sync wait for Growth at $79. Every paid plan has a 7-day free trial.
Best for: a phone-first review form at no cost.
3 · Loox
Loox: worth paying for photo and video reviews?
Your product sells on how it looks, and your reviews are only text. Loox is built around photos. Its free Beginner plan sends review emails and reminders, offers buyers a discount for a photo review, and adds at least 17 widgets.
Read the cap twice. Beginner covers 500 orders in total once the free trial ends, then closes. At 300 orders a month, that takes under two months.
Convert costs $49.99 a month for 300 orders a month, plus $50 for each 300 more, with a 14-day free trial. It adds video reviews, referrals, and reviews sent to Google, Meta and TikTok. Unlimited costs $299.99 a month.
Best for: fashion, beauty and home goods that sell on how they look.
4 · Klaviyo Reviews
Klaviyo Reviews: should reviews live in your email tool?
Your emails already run on Klaviyo, and a second tool emailing your buyers is one more thing to manage. Klaviyo Reviews sends review requests by email and SMS from the tool you have.
The free plan adds custom questions, a unique coupon for each reviewer and an import of your existing reviews. Its listing says it collects text, photo and video reviews.
Free covers up to 50 orders a month. The $25 plan covers 250 and times each request by delivery. The listing shows no plan above 250, so check the price in the app. Klaviyo may also bill you outside your Shopify invoice.
Best for: stores whose email already runs on Klaviyo.
5 · AG Product Reviews
AG Product Reviews: is a fully free review app enough?
You want reviews for $0, with no plan to outgrow. AG Product Reviews, from Air Reviews by Avada, lists its price as Free, with no paid plan card.
Its listing covers automated review requests, discounts for reviews, star ratings, carousel and testimonial widgets, Google's review stars and review migration. Photo reviews are on its features list; video reviews are not.
It is the newest app here, launched in September 2022. With no plan cards to read, check for limits inside the app before you build on it.
Best for: the tightest budget.
6 · Reviews.io
Reviews.io: do you need store reviews as well as product reviews?
You want shoppers to rate your store, not only the products in it. Reviews.io collects both. Its free plan includes automated requests, basic widgets, photo and video reviews, Klaviyo integration and Shop app sync.
That free plan sends 25 review invites a month. Launch, at $19 a month, raises it to 50 and adds Google Seller Ratings for Shopping, Google's review stars and emails to past customers. Launch Plus, at $45, sends 500 and adds Q&A, an AI review summary and NPS surveys.
The invite caps are low, and Reviews.io may bill you outside your Shopify invoice. Check the price inside the app.
Best for: stores that want store ratings in Google ads and Shopping.
7 · Okendo
Okendo: reviews and loyalty in one app, at what price?
Loyalty is your next project, and you would rather not run it in a second app. Okendo runs reviews and a loyalty program, with points, perks and store credit, in one app.
Its free plan covers 50 orders a month, with automated review emails, a smart review form, review rewards, review displays, Google's review stars and moderation.
Essential costs $19 a month up to 200 orders. Past 200, Growth costs $119 up to 1,500 and adds AI summaries, Q&A and TikTok Shop. Power is $299 up to 3,500. Every paid plan has a 14-day free trial.
Those prices cover reviews only. Okendo prices loyalty as a separate product. Already on Okendo and leaving? Eight Okendo alternatives cover reviews, loyalty or both.
Best for: brands adding loyalty next.
8 · Yotpo
Yotpo: when does the free plan run out?
You sell enough to run Google Shopping ads, and you want your stars in them. Yotpo's free plan covers 50 orders a month, with automatic review requests and reviews on your store.
Photo and video reviews, Google's review stars and Google Shopping Ads start on Starter at $15 a month. Pro, at $119, adds Google Seller Rating, custom questions and an AI review summary.
Both paid prices change with order volume, so the listed price is a floor. Yotpo may also bill you outside your Shopify invoice. Already on Yotpo and leaving? The Yotpo alternatives are priced at your order count.
Best for: higher-volume stores heading to Google Shopping.
Shopify's own reviews
Does Shopify still have its own review app?
Not one that shows reviews on your store. Shopify's Product Reviews app is retired, and its listing reads "This app is not currently available on the Shopify App Store."
The Shop app asks instead. After delivery, it sends your buyer a notification asking for 1 to 5 stars and up to 1,000 characters, and those reviews show in the Shop app.
So your buyer rates the product in Shop, skips your own email, and the review never reaches your product page. Shop reviews reach your online store through a review app that syncs with Shop, with a "Verified by Shop" badge you can't remove. Shopify's help page names five such apps: Judge.me, Loox, Okendo, Stamped.io and Yotpo. Junip's help center says its Shop app sync runs both ways too, and its listing puts that sync on Growth.
In your Shopify admin, open Sales channels, then Shop, then Settings, and find "Shop reviews". The request can go out 1 to 180 days after delivery. Untick "Reviews on purchases outside of Shop" to stop Shop asking about online-store orders. Purchases made in the Shop app always get the request while you sell on Shop.
When the price climbs
When does a review app start costing more?
The review app was free for your first orders. Then your orders pass the free plan's cap, and a bill starts.
Judge.me and Junip charge a flat price for extras. Loox caps its free plan by orders in total, then charges by orders a month. Okendo, Yotpo and Klaviyo Reviews charge by orders a month, and Reviews.io by review invites.
Say your store takes 300 orders a month.
- $0: Judge.me, Junip and AG Product Reviews.
- $49.99 a month: Loox, once Beginner closes in under two months.
- $45 a month: Reviews.io for 500 invites, since Launch stops at 50.
- $119 a month: Okendo, since Essential stops at 200 orders.
- Check the app: Klaviyo Reviews and Yotpo, whose listings show no price for that volume.
Switching later
Can you switch review apps later without losing reviews?
You switched apps, and an empty review box from the old one still sits on every product page.
Plan the move before you uninstall. Shopify's help page says reviews a partner app collects are managed in that app, so transfer them first. Judge.me imports from Yotpo, Loox, Amazon, Etsy and other platforms. Klaviyo Reviews imports your existing reviews, and AG Product Reviews lists review migration.
Reviews you move or upload as a CSV file never show in Shop. After the switch, check your product pages for the old app's empty box, and show one app's stars at a time.
To collect reviews in the first place, every app above sends the request for you. For the setup itself, read how to add product reviews to Shopify.
Not ranked · Sledge
Want review stars in your search results and filtered collections?
A shopper searches your store, and the results show no stars, though your product pages have reviews. Sledge is a Shopify search and filter app that also collects product reviews: a star rating, a written review and up to five photos, each up to 10 MB. It takes photos, not video.
Stars show on every product card Sledge draws, for any product with at least one published review. By default, new reviews of four stars and up go live on their own, and anything lower waits for you. You can publish or take down any review, reply to it, and mark it Verified yourself, since Sledge does not check whether the reviewer bought the product.
Beyond the product page widget, you get a slide-out review sidebar, a Happy Customer page with product and store reviews, a trust badge and review snippets. The widget starts switched off, and you turn it on in Sledge.
Already on Judge.me, Loox or Klaviyo Reviews? Sledge can show that app's stars on its own search results, instant search, filtered collections, recommendations and bundle listings, one review app at a time.
Sledge sends no review request emails and imports no reviews, so collect them with Judge.me, Loox or Klaviyo Reviews, the three apps whose stars it can show. It puts no stars in Google results and does not sync with Shop.
Reviews come in every Sledge plan, never as an add-on: $29.99, $89.99, $199 or $399 a month after a 14-day free trial, and free on development stores. On any paid plan, Growth Intelligence flags when fewer than 3 in 10 of your products have a review, once your store has at least 50 orders in the 90 days it reads. It adds its fixes into one dollar total, "Est. potential". Analytics shows reviews collected, your average rating, and how product-page visits that saw a reviewed product convert against those that did not.
Best for: stores that run Sledge search and filters, or plan to.

What is the best free review app for Shopify?
For most stores, Judge.me. Its free plan has no cap on reviews or review requests, takes photo and video reviews, and adds the review stars Google can show in search. Junip's free plan has no order cap either. Loox, Okendo, Yotpo and Klaviyo Reviews are free only up to a set number of orders.
Is Loox better than Judge.me?
Loox is built around photos, but its free plan closes after 500 orders in total, and video reviews start on Convert at $49.99, which covers 300 orders a month plus $50 for each 300 more. Judge.me takes photo and video reviews on its free plan and charges $15 a month for reminders and Google Shopping.
Klaviyo Reviews or Judge.me: which should you pick?
If your emails already run on Klaviyo, Klaviyo Reviews sends review requests by email and SMS and is free up to 50 orders a month, then $25 up to 250. Otherwise Judge.me's free plan goes further: no order cap on reviews or requests, and imports from Etsy and Amazon.
Does Shopify still have its own review app?
Not one that shows reviews on your store: Shopify's Product Reviews app is gone from the App Store. The Shop app asks buyers for a review after delivery, but those reviews show in the Shop app. To show them on your product pages, use a review app that syncs with Shop, such as Judge.me, Loox, Okendo, Stamped, Yotpo or Junip.
Can review stars show in your store's search results?
Yes, if the app that draws your search results reads them. Sledge, a search and filter app, can show Judge.me, Loox or Klaviyo Reviews stars on its search results, instant search, filtered collections and recommendations. In Sledge, open Settings & Support, then Integration, and switch on your review app. One can be on at a time.
Show your review stars where shoppers search
Sledge puts review stars on its search results and filtered collections. On any paid plan with 50 orders in the last 90 days, Growth Intelligence flags it when fewer than 3 in 10 of your products have a review, and adds its fixes into one dollar total labeled “Est. potential”.
