What are quantity breaks?

Quantity breaks are price tiers that lower the per-unit price as a shopper buys more of the same product. Buy two, pay less per item. Buy four, pay even less. Stores show the tiers on the product page as a small table, nudging shoppers toward bigger orders.

How do quantity breaks work?

Say you sell candles at $24. You set two breaks: two or more at $21 each, four or more at $18 each. A shopper who came for one candle reads the table and takes two for $42. You gave up $6 of margin to gain $18 of order. A gift shopper takes four for $72, three times what a single candle would have brought.

Keep the first tier easy to reach, one step above what shoppers already buy. Save the deepest price for the quantity that clears stock.

On Shopify stores

On a Shopify store, quantity breaks usually appear as a tier table or quantity picker on the product page, right under the price. The promise has to hold at checkout: two candles in the cart must ring up at $21 each, with no code to type. Shopify's built-in discounts don't draw that table on the product page, so stores add an app that displays the tiers and syncs the pricing to real Shopify discounts.
