What is recently viewed?
Recently viewed is a recommendation row that shows a shopper the products they just looked at, usually as a strip of recent items on the home page, a collection, or the cart. Instead of hunting back through their history for the jacket they almost bought, the store puts it in front of them, and the reminder often closes the sale.
How does recently viewed work?
A shopper looks at 6 products, leaves the last one, and starts to drift. A recently viewed row puts those 6 back in front of them. Some of them click back into the item they had moved past, and a share of those clicks become orders.
The product already did the work: the shopper viewed it, considered it, almost bought it. Showing it again saves them finding it twice, and recovers sales nearly lost to a closed tab.
On Shopify stores
On a Shopify store, recently viewed shows up as a "recently viewed" or "pick up where you left off" row. It is personal: every shopper sees their own trail, not a generic bestseller list. Placed on the home page or near the cart, it catches the shopper who wandered off and points them back to the product they were closest to buying.
