What is an upsell?

An upsell is an offer that moves a shopper to a higher-value choice: the bigger size, the better model. The shopper was already buying. The upsell asks one question at the right moment and turns the same sale into a larger one.

How does upselling work?

Say you sell a face serum in two sizes: 30ml at $38 and 50ml at $54. The product page shows both, and the bigger bottle is cheaper per ml. If one shopper in four takes the 50ml, the average order climbs $4, with no extra visitors.

Upsell vs cross-sell: what's the difference?

Both grow the order; the difference is direction. An upsell upgrades the product in hand: the 50ml instead of the 30ml. A cross-sell adds a companion: a face roller beside the serum.

On Shopify stores

On a Shopify store, the product page is the classic spot: show the larger size beside the standard one and let the per-unit price sell it. The cart drawer and the thank-you page work too. Keep the jump small. Shoppers take a $16 step up far more often than a $60 leap.

Upselling with Sledge

Sledge runs upsell placements on product pages and in the cart drawer, and on the thank-you page. And Growth Intelligence finds upsell opportunities in your order patterns, estimates the monthly impact in dollars, then measures the result against real sales.
