What is personalization?

Personalization is tailoring what a shopper sees, search results and browse order, to their own behavior, rather than showing everyone the identical store. As a shopper clicks, searches, and buys, the store learns what they lean toward and brings matching products forward. Two shoppers searching the same word can see different results.

Example

Two shoppers both search "boots." One has clicked waterproof hiking gear all session; the other keeps opening tall leather styles. A flat store shows them the same grid in the same order. A personalized store reads the session and reorders: the hiker sees waterproof up top, the other sees leather first. Neither scrolls past products they were never going to buy. Right product, fewer clicks, more orders from the same traffic.

The signal builds within a session and across visits, so the ranking sharpens the more a shopper engages.

On Shopify stores

On a Shopify store, the default is one experience for everyone: search ranks the same, collections sort the same, no matter who is looking. Personalization changes that by quietly weighting each shopper's results toward their demonstrated taste. Keep it subtle. The shopper should feel the store "gets" them, not feel watched. Done well, it reads as relevance: the thing they wanted was near the top, no digging for it.

Personalization with Sledge

Sledge personalization tailors search and browse to each shopper's behavior, ranking results toward what that person tends to want. It reads four signals you choose from, and it runs on every plan including the entry tier. Growth Intelligence describes what changed and measures it against real sales, so relevance is a result you can read, not a black box.
