What is predictive search?
Predictive search shows suggestions the moment a shopper starts typing in the search box: likely products, completed search terms, and matching collections, updated with every keystroke. A two-letter start can surface the exact item, before they finish the word.
Example
A shopper taps search and types "blu". Predictive search drops a panel: "blue dress," "blue jeans," a blue tote at $40, the Denim collection. She taps "blue dress" and lands on a filtered grid in one move, mid-word. Without it, she spells the whole phrase, presses enter, waits for a page, and scans. Reading the start and offering the destination is why shoppers reach a product faster and bounce less.
Good predictions forgive a slip: "bllue" should still suggest blue.
On Shopify stores
On a Shopify store, predictive search powers the suggestion panel under the search bar, often paired with instant search: predictive offers the terms and top products as you type, instant renders the full results overlay. Coverage is the split that matters. Weak predictions only complete product titles; strong ones also suggest collections and pages, and forgive typos, because phones make typos and small screens reward a shortcut.

Predictive search with Sledge
Sledge Search suggests products, terms, and collections as the shopper types, with typo tolerance built in, then opens the full results overlay the moment they choose. Bundles and upsell offers appear right inside the suggestions, so the search box finds what shoppers want and sells alongside it. Sell where shoppers decide.
