What is a product badge?
A product badge is a small label on a product card: New, Bestseller, Sale, Low stock. It sits on or over the product image and gives shoppers one quick reason to click that card instead of the lookalike beside it. Stores use badges to steer attention inside a crowded grid.
Why do product badges lift clicks?
A collection is forty near-identical cards with no cue about where to start. A badge adds one. Bestseller is social proof in a single word: other shoppers already chose this one. Low stock adds urgency. New tells a returning visitor what changed. Each badge answers the shopper's silent question, which of these deserves a closer look.
The math is small but it compounds. Say 100 shoppers scan a collection and a Bestseller badge tips five of them into a product page they would have scrolled past. That is five extra product views per hundred visits, every day the badge is up.
One rule keeps badges working: badge everything and you have badged nothing.
On Shopify stores
Most themes show only the basics, a Sale or Sold out flag, and anything more means editing theme code. So you run badges through an app instead: pick the products or the collection, set the dates, publish. The scheduling matters more than it sounds. A New badge that never expires says more about your store than the product.
