What are intent surfaces?

Intent surfaces are the places and moments where a shopper shows what they want and an offer belongs: the search bar, the results it returns, filtered collections, the product page, the cart, and the thank-you page. A shopper typing "gifts for runners" is telling you something. An intent surface is where you answer.

Intent surfaces is a concept from Sledge, the Shopify app built to sell where shoppers decide. The full map lives at /surfaces.

How do intent surfaces work?

A shopper types "candles" into your search bar. She isn't browsing now, she wants candles today. Out of 1,000 shoppers who search in a month, maybe 350 click through to a product page. An offer that lives only on product pages reaches those 350. The same offer placed inside search results and the filtered collection reaches all 1,000, while each shopper narrows toward a purchase.

On Shopify stores

A Shopify store has more intent surfaces than most stores use: the search overlay, the results page, every filtered collection, the product page, the cart drawer, the cart page, and the thank-you screen after checkout. At each one, the shopper has just told you something. Many stores keep offers on the product page and leave the rest quiet. Treating every surface as shelf space is how the same catalog sells more.

Intent surfaces with Sledge

Sledge is the Shopify app built around intent surfaces: bundles and upsell offers can appear inside search results and filtered collections, not just on the product page, so the shopper meets the offer the moment she shows what she wants. See every surface, mapped, at /surfaces.
