How to add a countdown timer to the Dawn theme

Dawn has no countdown timer. The closest native move is static text in the announcement bar: "Sale ends Sunday", no ticking clock. The next route is countdown code pasted into a custom liquid section. Sledge adds real timers, a store-wide bar or chosen product pages, scheduled to start and end on their own. All three routes below.

A deadline shoppers can watch beats one in the fine print: digits moving toward zero turn "sometime this weekend" into "before dinner". Dawn ships without that clock. Here is what the theme can do, what code can do, and what Sledge does.

Option A: put the deadline in Dawn's announcement bar

Dawn's announcement bar can carry the message, even though it cannot count.

1. In the theme editor, select the Announcement bar in Dawn's header group.
2. Write the line: "Spring sale ends Sunday at midnight."
3. Optionally link the bar to the sale collection. Save.

The virtues: free, instant, on every page. For a quiet offer announced a few times a year, a clear sentence does the job.

Where it stops: the text never ticks, so the urgency a moving clock creates is missing. The bar carries one message storewide, with no way to scope a deadline to the products it covers. And nothing retires it: on Wednesday it still reads "ends Sunday" unless someone remembers, and a stale deadline teaches shoppers that yours are soft.

Option B: paste countdown code into a custom liquid section

Shopify has no native countdown timer, and no Shopify-made app for one. So the do-it-yourself route is code, usually a snippet from a tutorial:

1. In the theme editor, add a Custom liquid section where the timer should live.
2. Paste the countdown code: markup for the digits, JavaScript counting to an end date, CSS to match Dawn.
3. Repeat for every placement, since each spot is its own paste.
4. After the sale, remove the section by hand.

Credit where due: with a developer handy and a trustworthy snippet, a single launch timer this way costs nothing but an afternoon.

Where it stops: the code lives in your theme, so Dawn updates mean carrying it over, and styling to match Dawn is hand work. The clock hits zero and keeps sitting there unless the removal is coded too. The start is unmanaged: paste too early and the timer leaks the sale. Every new sale means editing dates inside code, the kind of chore that gets skipped in November.

Option C: run countdowns with Sledge

Sledge runs countdown timers as scheduled campaigns, tuned for Dawn, with no code.

Announcement bar, custom code, or Sledge?

The honest read: an offer you announce twice a year survives fine as a sentence in the announcement bar. A one-off launch with a developer handy can be coded. Stores that run deadlines as a habit, seasonal sales, weekly drops, clearance windows, want timers that schedule, scope, and clean up after themselves.
