How to add a wishlist to the Horizon Shopify theme
A shopper saves a jacket on their phone at lunch. That night, they open your store on a laptop, and the wishlist is empty. You can add one three ways: a heart a developer builds that saves in the shopper's browser, a wishlist app's heart inside the product card, or Sledge, which adds a heart, a header count, and a wishlist page to Horizon without changing your theme.
A shopper hearts a jacket on the phone at lunch and opens the laptop that night to an empty list. The Shop app saves favorites too, and Shopify says you can't see those saves. Either way, you never learn the jacket was wanted.
Does the Horizon theme have a wishlist?
No. Horizon ships without one, and the Theme Store feature list skips it too, while naming product badges, back-in-stock alerts, and recently viewed products. Shoppers can save favorites in the Shop app, but Shopify's help page says you can't access which products they save.
Horizon does give a wishlist heart somewhere to live. Its product cards take an extra block from the theme editor, whether a developer builds it or an app supplies it.
Two things are easy to miss until the wishlist is live. On some setups, Add to cart from a wishlist page leaves Horizon's cart count unchanged until the page reloads. Before you pick an app, ask its support team whether theirs updates that count straight away. And a theme update can land with a note that edits to the theme's files could not be included, which drops any heart built there instead of in the theme editor.
Option A: pay a developer for a simple heart
A developer can add a heart to Horizon's product cards from the theme editor. It saves products in the shopper's browser, and a separate page lists what they saved. Ask for the same heart on your collection, search, and product pages, since each page type keeps its own settings.
Once it is built, the heart costs nothing to run. It sits in theme editor settings, which Shopify copies into an updated theme, so an update keeps it.
Where it stops: the list lives in one browser. Switch to the laptop or clear the browser, and it is gone. You see none of it, so a product saved forty times looks exactly like one nobody saved. There is no share link, and a count in the header means paying for more work.
Option B: a wishlist app's heart inside the product card
If the app offers a heart for the product card, place it inside Horizon's product card, not beside the grid. Horizon uses that card in collection grids, search results, and product recommendations, but each page type keeps its own settings, so add the heart on your collection, search, and product pages.
Free plans exist. As of September 2026, Wishlist Hero's free plan covers 500 wishlist additions a month, and XB Wishlist's free plan includes guest wishlists. Reminders cost extra. Wishlist Hero's low-stock and on-sale emails start at $4 a month, XB Wishlist's price-drop alerts at $11.95, and Swym Wishlist Plus puts reminders and price-drop alerts in its $29.99 Starter plan.
Before you install, check four things
- Guests can save without creating an account.
- Every list gets a share link.
- A signed-in shopper sees the same list on phone and laptop.
- Add to cart from the wishlist page moves Horizon's cart count without a reload.
An app that passes those four checks fixes Option A's one-browser problem and shows you the saves. Where it stops: it is one more app running on your store and, once reminders matter, one more bill. Two of those three apps cap monthly saves or actions by plan, so a strong season can push you up a tier.
Option C: Sledge's wishlist, tuned for Horizon
Sledge is a Shopify app that adds a wishlist to Horizon without changing your theme. It ships a setup built for Horizon's own design, the same one that runs Sledge's filters, search, and cart drawer on Horizon.
- Install Sledge from the Shopify App Store, start the 14-day free trial, and switch Sledge on under App embeds in the theme editor.
- Open the wishlist tool and switch it on, then set the placements you want in Wishlist actions.
- Leave Require login off to let guests save, and turn on Variant level to save the exact size and color.
- Open a collection page with Sledge's filters switched on and tap a heart to check it.
What lands on Horizon: a heart on the product cards Sledge shows, in collection grids when Sledge's filters are on, in search results, and in recommendation sliders. A wishlist button sits right after the buy buttons on the product page, a saved count sits in the header beside the cart, and the wishlist gets its own page. Nothing in your theme changes, so a Horizon update has nothing to leave behind.
Guests save to Sledge's wishlist without an account, while signed-in shoppers keep one list across devices. Each list carries a share link on the wishlist page. The wishlist is included on every plan, from $29.99 a month.
Sledge's wishlist sends no reminder emails. If a nudge email is the whole point, Option B's paid plans do that job.
Developer-built heart, wishlist app, or Sledge?
| Developer-built heart | Wishlist app | Sledge | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Price | A developer's time, then free | Free plans; reminders from $4/month | From $29.99/month, 14-day free trial |
| Guest saves | Yes, in one browser | Yes, on the three above | Yes, unless you require login |
| Share link | No | Varies by app | Yes, on the wishlist page |
| Reminder emails | No | Paid plans | No |
| Saves across devices | No | Check the plan | For signed-in shoppers |
| Changes to your theme | Built in the theme editor | None, switched on in the theme editor | None, switched on in the theme editor |
| You can see the saves | No | In the app's reports | No per-product count in the admin |
If one-device saves are all you need, a developer-built heart survives updates and costs nothing to run. Pay for a wishlist app's plan if reminder emails are the goal. Pick Sledge for a share link on the wishlist page and a list that follows signed-in shoppers across devices.
Questions, answered
Does the Horizon theme have a wishlist?
No. Horizon ships without a wishlist, and its Theme Store feature list names none. Shoppers who use the Shop app can save favorites there, but Shopify states you can't see which products they save. A wishlist on Horizon comes from a developer, an app, or Sledge.
Does the same wishlist setup work on Horizon's sibling themes?
Yes. Atelier, Dwell, Fabric, Heritage, Pitch, Ritual, Savor, Tinker, and Vessel come from Shopify's Horizon collection and share its product cards, so the same steps should carry over. Sledge ships a tuned setup for each of the nine, with the same card heart, product page button, header count, and wishlist page.
Can guests use the wishlist without an account?
With Sledge, yes, by default. Guests save to a list tied to their browser, and Require login is a toggle if you want accounts only. Signed-in shoppers keep their list across devices. A developer-built heart that saves in the browser also works for guests, but the list never leaves that device. Wishlist Hero, XB Wishlist, and Swym Wishlist Plus support guest saves too.
Will a Horizon theme update remove the wishlist?
Not if the wishlist was added in the theme editor or by an app you switch on there. Shopify copies changes made in the theme editor into the updated theme. Edits made directly to the theme's files, including ones an app made, are left out when they clash with the update, and flagged in a note. Sledge adds its wishlist without changing your theme, so an update has nothing to lose.
Put the heart on Horizon. Let shoppers share what they save.
Start with the 14-day free trial. Switch on the wishlist, and hearts land on the product cards Sledge shows on Horizon, with no theme edits. On Pro and up, Growth Intelligence puts a dollar estimate on the next fix in your store.
