How to show a bundle inside Shopify instant search
A bundle's name is just a label in Sledge's instant search. Whether its card shows up for a search comes down to one setting, targeting, and it has nothing to do with what you called the bundle.
A shopper searches for the candle in your "Cozy Night In" set. Three products drop into the overlay, none of them the set, even though the set is named clearly and tagged well. She buys the candle alone, at full price, and never sees the bundle built to sell three items at once.
Why doesn't your bundle show up when a shopper searches for what's inside it?
Because a bundle's name is only a label on its card. Whether that card appears for a given search is decided by a separate setting on the bundle, its targeting, not the name you gave it and not what's inside the box. Set that targeting to the wrong mode, or never open it, and a perfectly named bundle sits there, invisible.
The shopper closest to buying, the one who already knows what she wants and is typing it, is the shopper your bundle never reaches. Nothing in your reports flags that either: a bundle that never appears looks exactly like a bundle nobody wanted.
Option A: rely on Shopify's native instant search
Shopify ships every store with a free instant search, and the Search and Discovery app adds synonyms and filters on top. Title a manually built bundle with the words shoppers search, candle, gift set, cozy night, and native search can genuinely find it: title matching works on a bundle product the same as any other.
Where it stops: the dropdown only lists product matches. It has no concept of a featured offer or a bundle card, so the renamed bundle turns up as one more row among the results, not pulled forward, not guaranteed a slot.
Option B: a bundle app that lives on the product page only
Most bundle apps, including Shopify's own free Bundles app, place the offer on the bundle's own product page only. That page still has to be found first, and none of these apps reach into a search overlay at all. The bundle waits for the shopper to arrive. It never reaches into the search bar to bring her there.
Option C: Sledge's instant search, built for bundles
Sledge's instant search doesn't try to match the bundle's own name at all. Each bundle carries its own targeting for its dropdown and search results: show it on every search, tie it to the terms already on your popular-search list, or list the exact words, candle, gift set, cozy night, that should bring it up. Type one of those words and the bundle card appears in the first or last slot, next to the regular matches, whatever the bundle happens to be called.
Three bundle types carry this placement: fixed bundles, Buy X Get Y, and volume discounts. Build-your-own, free gift, and add-ons live somewhere else on purpose: BYOB on its own builder page, free gift in the cart, add-ons on the product page, because a box a shopper assembles, a gift unlocked by spend, or an extra tied to one product needs more room than a two-second overlay gives it.
Rely on native search, wait on the product page, or set targeting in Sledge's instant search?
| Route | What it costs | Where it stops |
|---|---|---|
| A. Rely on native instant search | Free, but no offer-card slot | Buried among ordinary matches, no targeting control |
| B. Product-page bundle app | App subscription | Only reaches shoppers who already found the page |
| C. Sledge, placed in the overlay | App subscription | Covers 3 of 9 offer types; targeting is set per bundle, not automatic |
A clear bundle name still helps shoppers once they see the card, and it's worth writing one for that reason alone. It just isn't what decides whether they see it in the first place.
Before you place a bundle in your own overlay
- Search your own store for what's inside your best bundle, not the bundle's name, and see what comes back.
- Check which of your bundles are fixed, Buy X Get Y, or volume discount: those three qualify for the instant search slot.
- Decide whether the first slot or the last slot puts the bundle where a shopper's eye actually lands.
- Set each bundle's targeting to every search, specific words you choose, or your popular-search list. The bundle's saved name plays no part in the match.
- Keep BYOB and free gift where they already work, the builder page and the cart, instead of forcing them into an overlay built for a two-second decision.
Questions, answered
Can a Shopify bundle show up in instant search?
Yes. A Sledge bundle shows a card in instant search and search results based on its targeting setting, every search, specific words you pick, or your popular-search list, never based on the bundle's own name.
Why doesn't my bundle appear when a shopper searches for what's inside it?
Because the bundle's targeting setting hasn't been told to catch that search. The bundle's name and its contents both play no part in the match, only its targeting does. Check the setting before you rename or retag anything.
Does Sledge match a bundle to search terms using its name?
No. The bundle's name is only a label on the card. Its instant search and search-results targeting is a separate setting: every search, specific words you choose, or your popular-search list.
Does Shopify's native instant search support bundles?
No. Shopify's built-in instant search dropdown lists matching products only; it has no concept of an offer or bundle card. Sledge's instant search adds that card, placed in the first or last slot by targeting you set, independent of any product's name.
Which bundle types can appear in Shopify instant search with Sledge?
Fixed bundles, Buy X Get Y, and volume discounts. Build-your-own-bundle, free gift, and add-ons are placed on their own builder page, in the cart, and on the product page instead, since each needs more room than a two-second overlay gives it.
Do I need Shopify's Bundles app for this?
No. Shopify's free Bundles app places a bundle on its own product page, a separate surface from instant search. Sledge's bundle card in the instant search overlay doesn't depend on it.
Where does the bundle appear inside the overlay?
In the first or last slot of the results, a position you choose. It sits beside the regular product matches rather than replacing them.
Your bundle shouldn't wait to be found.
Place a fixed bundle, Buy X Get Y, or volume discount right inside Sledge's instant search, so it shows up the moment a shopper types the words you chose for it. Install free, and the first findings from Growth Intelligence follow once you pick a plan.
