Shopify search apps cost from free to $2,000 a month or more, among apps that show a price. Published entry prices in this comparison range from free to $649 a month, depending on the app and what it counts as usage. Top plans cost far more: Boost AI Search lists up to $1,499, Search by Depict $2,000 on its Shopify listing, and Searchanise $999 for Shopify Plus stores. Some usage-based plans do not publish a maximum monthly price, so a busy month can cost more than the listed plan price. What the app counts decides your bill.
You picked a plan in a quiet month. Then a sale and a newsletter brought three times the visits, and shoppers searched far more often. On some apps that busy month adds an extra charge to the bill. On others the price holds, and the app asks you to upgrade only after several months over the limit.
What are Shopify search apps charging for?
A plan price is rarely a flat fee. It buys an allowance, the amount of use included each month. Each app counts something against that allowance, and several count two things at once. Prices step up as that count grows, and each step is a tier.
Four things most search apps count
- Search requests. A request is one set of results the app sends back. Some apps send fresh results with each letter a shopper types, so one typed word can use several.
- Sessions. The word usually means visits. Fast Simon bills by the session but does not publish what counts as one, so ask.
- Products or records. Searchanise prices by active products. Algolia counts records, the entries it searches through. By default its Shopify app makes each version of a product, such as one size in one color, its own record.
- Your monthly sales. Boost AI Search sets your plan by your average online sales over three months. As your average sales move into a higher pricing tier, your Boost bill can increase.
| App | What the bill counts | Cheapest published price, September 2026 | Highest published price |
|---|---|---|---|
| Klevu | Search requests | $649 a month for 50,000, on its Shopify listing | Larger tiers exist, with no price shown |
| Fast Simon | Sessions | Free to 100, then $39.99 for 2,000 | $299.99 for 30,000 |
| Algolia | Search requests and records | Free to 10,000 requests and 50,000 records | Grow has no base fee and charges $0.50 per 1,000 requests past 10,000, with no top price |
| Doofinder | Requests, including catalog updates | $61 for Shopify stores, or $55 a month billed yearly | $436, with custom Enterprise pricing above |
| Search by Depict | Search queries | $500 for 10,000 on its Shopify listing, no free plan | $2,000 for 100,000 |
| Searchanise | Active products | Free to 25, then $19 for 1,500 | $499 for 2 million, or $999 for Shopify Plus |
| Boost AI Search | Average monthly sales | From $29 | Up to $1,499, for stores selling under $2.5 million a month |
The listing is the app's page on the Shopify App Store, and the plan cards are the price boxes on it. Prices in this table will change. What each app counts changes far less often, so check that first.
What happens when you go past your allowance?
A busy month can push a count past its allowance. For the apps here that publish what happens when you go over, the documented outcome is an extra charge or a request to upgrade, not an immediate shutdown of search.
The first pattern adds an extra charge and keeps search running. Algolia's Grow plan includes 10,000 search requests and charges $0.50 for every 1,000 after that. A month of 30,000 requests leaves 20,000 extra, which is 20 blocks of 1,000 at $0.50 each: about $10. With results as you type, 30,000 requests can be far fewer than 30,000 shopper searches. Boost AI Search works on sales instead: if your three-month average passes your plan's limit, it charges $2 for every extra $1,000 unless you move up a plan.
The second pattern keeps the price and asks later. Doofinder's help center says search is not interrupted, and Doofinder steps in when use runs more than 20% over the plan for three months in a row. Depict's pricing page says it tracks use but does not enforce limits, so one traffic spike never moves you to a higher plan.
Sledge is a search, filter and merchandising app on a flat monthly bill, and it never charges per search, per visit or per sale. Plans still have limits. Pro handles up to 10,000 products and allows 2,000 conversational searches per billing cycle, where a conversational search is a search typed as a full sentence and turned into filters. It stays off until you switch it on. Pro also covers up to $8,000 a month in sales credited to Sledge, counted by calendar month in UTC, the world's standard time. Past that, Growth Intelligence, the part of Sledge that names your next fix with a dollar figure, pauses new suggestions. Conversational search drops back to ordinary search until the next month, and the price stays the same. If your subscription ends, or the trial ends without a plan, Sledge's search and filters stop showing on your store.
Ask each app which pattern it follows before you subscribe. An app that publishes no price for going over and no policy has not answered yet. The same question works on the apps you already pay for, and it is one of the checks to cut a Shopify app bill without losing features.
Why does the Shopify App Store show different plans than the app's website?
Three traps, and each one can put you on the wrong plan.
The first is a limit on the listing. Until 9 July 2026, an app could show at most four public plans there, and Shopify now allows eight. Apps can also keep up to fifteen private plans that never appear on the listing, up from ten. The Searchanise listing shows four plans: three from its regular list and one for Shopify Plus stores. Three of those cards point you to its website, which lists seven regular tiers plus an Enterprise plan for up to 2 million products.
The second is a separate price for Shopify. Doofinder's general pricing page shows $49, $149 and $349, but those prices are for other platforms. The same page sends Shopify stores to their own price list: $61, $186 and $436, the same figures as the listing. On Shopify, you pay Doofinder $61 a month for its Basic plan, or $55 a month when billed yearly.
The third is one company with two apps. Depict's Supergrid Collections app, which sorts collection pages, is free for three collections and then costs $100 to $500 a month. Search by Depict is a different app with no free plan, from $500 to $2,000 a month on its listing. Depict's own pricing page currently advertises Search from $152 a month when billed yearly, so check which pricing model applies to your store before comparing it with the prices on its Shopify listing.
On Boost AI Search, "from $29" is the lowest price, and your own price depends on your sales. Read the listing and the app's own pricing page, and ask for your price in writing.
What about the apps that publish no price at all?
Some search companies show no price on their websites. You have to ask their sales team.
Klevu's own site says Klevu is now Athos Commerce, the company that joins Klevu and Searchspring. Klevu's pricing page and Searchspring's pricing page both lead to one Athos Commerce page. Every plan on it has a "Request Pricing" button and no price. Constructor, another search company, has no pricing page on its site.
Klevu's Shopify listing is the only place left where any of these companies shows prices: $649 for Site Search, plus add-ons at $449 and $549. Searchspring and Constructor publish no price, so a price you see in an article comparing apps cannot be checked against anything the company publishes.
Start instead with apps whose full price list you can read without a sales call: Klevu alternatives that show a price.
What should you ask a search app before you subscribe?
Beyond the monthly price, what does the plan count? How much is included each month? What happens when you go over: an extra charge, a request to upgrade, or something else? Ask all three in writing, of every app on your shortlist. An app that answers plainly is telling you what your busiest month will cost.

How much does Klevu cost?
Klevu's Shopify listing prices Site Search at $649 a month for 50,000 search requests, with larger tiers available. Recommendations is $449 and Category Merch is $549, and the listing labels both as add-ons to Site Search. The top of the listing says from $449, but that price buys an add-on, not a working search plan.
How much does Fast Simon cost?
Fast Simon's Shopify listing is free up to 100 monthly sessions. Paid plans are Starter at $39.99 for 2,000 sessions, Essential at $99.99 for 10,000, and Top Pro at $299.99 for 30,000. Yearly billing saves 17 percent. The listing does not say what counts as a session, so ask before you pick a plan.
Does one shopper search count as one on the bill?
Not always. Algolia says that when results appear as you type, every letter sends a new search request. Doofinder counts a request each time its servers answer, and by default it starts showing results from the third letter. Doofinder also counts its own work: reading 1,000 of your products uses 10 requests, and each page of your site that it reads uses one.
Do search apps bill through my Shopify invoice?
Klevu and Algolia may not. Both of their Shopify listings warn that the company may bill charges separately from your Shopify invoice. Algolia's listing says the app is free to install and lists its extra charges, such as $0.50 for every 1,000 search requests past 10,000 on Grow.
Can I move to a cheaper plan later?
Not on every app. Boost AI Search sets your plan by your average online sales over the last three months, and its pricing page says you cannot move to a plan with a sales limit below that average. Algolia bills Grow and Grow Plus monthly with no contract, while its top plan needs a yearly contract and shows no price.
How many products can I have before the price moves?
Searchanise prices by active products: free up to 25, $19 a month up to 1,500, and $349 up to 300,000. Above that, its Enterprise plan covers up to 2 million products at $499 a month, or $999 for Shopify Plus stores. Algolia's free plan holds 50,000 records, the entries it searches through. By default its Shopify app makes each version of a product, such as one size in one color, its own record. A catalog with many sizes and colors fits far fewer than 50,000 products.
Is Klevu still Klevu?
Not by name. Klevu's own site says Klevu is now Athos Commerce, which joins Searchspring, Klevu and Intelligent Reach in one company. The Shopify listing still names Klevu as the developer, and shows the app launched in August 2016 with a 4.9 rating from 13 reviews.
Which Shopify search apps publish a price without a sales call?
Fast Simon, Doofinder, Searchanise, Algolia, Boost AI Search and Search by Depict all show prices you can read today. On its Shopify listing, Search by Depict has no free plan: it costs $500 a month for up to 10,000 search queries, $1,000 for 30,000 and $2,000 for 100,000. Depict's free plan belongs to a different app, Supergrid Collections, which sorts collection pages.
Does Sledge charge more when shoppers search more?
No. Sledge charges a flat monthly price, from $29.99 on Pro, and never bills per search, per visit or per sale. Plans do have limits. Pro handles up to 10,000 products, allows 2,000 conversational searches per billing cycle, and covers up to $8,000 a month in sales credited to Sledge. Going past the sales cap or the conversational search allowance pauses that feature and leaves the price the same.
Your Sledge bill never rises with what shoppers do.
Install free and start a 14-day trial. Until you pick a plan, the trial has limits, including no AI search, no Growth Intelligence and one bundle of each kind. Plans start at $29.99 a month on Pro, flat, never per search or per sale. On Pro, Growth Intelligence reads your own orders and searches every week and names the next fix with a dollar figure on it. Pro covers up to $8,000 a month in sales credited to Sledge, a ceiling, not a promise.
